The concept of the Kinocene, the Era of Motion, reflects the unprecedented global transformations driven by technological advancements, environmental changes, and increased mobility of humans and non-humans. As the Arctic Ocean becomes a focal point of the Kinocene, it is crucial to evaluate the role of international law of the sea at this juncture, particularly its interaction with various manifestations of motion within the Arctic Ocean space. This dissertation explores the normative and ontological relationship between the law of the sea and motion in the Arctic Ocean through a kinopolitical lens. Combining theoretical research within critical legal geography and empirical legal research with the semi-nomadic Inughuit communities of Avanersuaq, Greenland, the study illuminates how motion serves both as an object of kinopolitical power and as a mechanism of resistance against such power, thereby highlighting the critical tensions that emerge from the kinopolitical positioning of the law of the sea in the Arctic Ocean.
